Mount Higby

Mount Higby Trail Map

Mount Higby – Middlefield, CT.

Elevation: 892′

Mt. Higby is a pretty easy hike. I enjoy doing this one around sunset because it offers amazing views of the west. The trail down is pretty quick and not very steep. Perfect trail for beginners looking for a bit of elevation gain or training your pup to hike steeper sections and, added bonus, it’s usually not too busy.  I do a there and back and the total is about 3.5 miles. The Steepest part is the very beginning of the hike, once you hit your first view it levels off.

Hiking Mount Higby with your pup

Mt. Higby is a very friendly dog hiking area. The first half mile is where you gain most your elevation and there are small climbs up but nothing too challenging. I do recommend this hike for beginner hikers looking for more than just a flat walk in the woods.

Parking

I always put into my GPS “New Guida’s Restaurant” as the parking lot is about 3 miles up (across the street from Black Pond), right off of route 66. Depending on which direction you’re coming from depends on whether you are making a U-Turn at the restaurant or just continue driving straight down route 66. Either way, you will see the parking lot on the same side of the road as New Guida’s Restaurant.
