Mount Southington

Mount Southington / Lake Compounce – Southington, CT

Mount Southington is a bit of a hidden gem hike. You have to park on a deadend block on Pathorn Trail off of Mt. Vernon Rd. With COVID parking is pretty restricted but I haven’t seen too many cars/people here, even with COVID.

Once you park the entrance is a small little area at the end of the dead-end road. It gets steep quick so be prepared. The blazed are pretty well marked but they do skip around a bit so keep your eyes on the blazes. Once you’re up the Blue-Yellow trail you have a bunch of options. I like looping it around as seen in the map above. You could also go down the Blue-Yellow trail that connects to lake ave and walk around Lake Compounce to make it a loop. Lake ave is a very busy road and people drive super fast on it so I would caution to limit the time spent walking on this road.

It is a dog friendly trail and I’ve seen multiple pups hiking around the area. If you do walk on Lake Ave in-front of Lake Compounce at all, be careful of all the garbage and broken glass on the side of the road.
