Dorr Mountain

Dorr Mountain Trail Map

Dorr Mountain – Acadia National Park, ME

Hiking Dorr mountain was a lot of fun. We did climb the ladder trail up, which I didn’t know wasn’t a dog-friendly trail. Java had no issues but it is park policy so I would recommend taking Kane Path over to Schiff Path then take Schiff up to Dorr Mountain Summit. Going around the ladder trail will add a bit of distance but the ladder trail is pretty steep so going around might be easier overall even if the distance is a bit longer.

The summit of Dorr mountain does offer really nice views of Caddilac Mountain and Bar Harbor.

After getting to the summit of Dorr Mountain we continued on to Caddilac summit then over to Dike Peak and back down to make it a total of about 4.5-mile hike.

I didn’t realize dogs aren’t allowed on the Ladder Trail as we did take the Ladder Trail up to Dorr mountain summit. Java had no issues with the Ladder Trail and, to be honest, not sure why pets aren’t allowed on the Ladder Trail. It is a very steep trail and has a lot of stairs with some metal ladder rung sections but all the ladder sections Java was able to just jump the staircase to get over or climb the rocks up, circumventing the ladder altogether. However, had I known dogs weren’t allowed on the Ladder Trail as a park rule, I would not have brought him on the trail out of respect of park rules.
