Bernard Mountain Trail Map

Bernard Mountain – Acadia National Park, ME

There are many trails up to Bernard. You can take the West Ledge trail on the west side of the mountain which is a bit steep but probably the most direct route to summit Bernard. There’s only room for about 2 cars at the parking lot at the beginning of West Ledge trail and can be a bit hard to find. You could also take Gilley trail or Sluiceway trail up. Sluiceway trail is a bit of a rock scramble up, especially after the Gilley trail merge. The Gilley trail is a very gradual and really nice walking trail. If you’re looking for a bit of a challenge you can take the Perpendicular trail, which is super fun but steep trail – read more about The Perpendicular Trail Here.

Hiking Bernard Mountain with you pup

Bernard mountain is a very dog-friendly hike. The trail does get a bit steep and it is rocky so not advisable to new hikers or if your pup isn’t in shape. There weren’t any rock scrambles on the trail but it was steep and not always the easiest footing.
