Alander Mountain

Alander Mtn – Mount Washington, MA

Elevation: 1,679 feet

Hiking Alander Mtn is absolutely worth the visit to Mount Washington State Forest. I parked on Mt. Alander Trailhead (3F8M+98 Boston Corner, Ancram, NY) and hiked up to Mt. Alander from the NY side. Mount Alander was a bit strenuous but no challenge for Java. We started the hike around noon and finished a little after 3pm.  The whole loop was about 5 miles. What makes this hike hard is you’re at a constant incline the entire hike up. It Doesn’t really get too steep until the last half mile but by that time your legs are pretty tired from the gradual up the entire time so be careful of your footing.

Hiking Alander Mountain with your Pup

Overall, Alander Mountain was a very dog-friendly hike. Java loved exploring the area. It has some clean running streams for him to drink in the beginning but not much after so bring plenty of extra water. The summit offers great views and an excellent spot to eat your lunch before heading back down.
