Cascade was our first, of hopefully many, 4k footers in NY! I was told this is a great one to start with and it really was nice. It wasn’t too steep or long of a hike. It is a super popular hike though and we saw lots of pups and people on this hike!
There was plenty of parking for Cascade Mountain. You just park right off of Route 73. Once you step onto the trail you basically start gaining elevation immediately. The trail was a bit muddy and lots of mosquitos until we got about a mile in. To the summit of Mount Cascade and back is a total of 4.8 (I clocked it at 5.2) miles. Lots of people add on Porters Mountain to this hike. It adds 1.4 miles to your trip for a total of 6.2. I didn’t know at the time that Mount Porters was an option, just means I’ll be back soon!
Cascade Mountain was a super dog friendly hike and a nice introduction into hiking 4k footers in NY! There were lots of pups on this hike and it seems like a popular pup choice for the area.
