The Terrifying 25 is a popular list of difficult White Mountains Hiking Trails compiled by Trish Herr, the author of Up! A Mother and Daughter’s Peakbagging Adventure, for her young daughters Alex and Sage. They enjoy hiking through boulder caves, rocky scrambles, and traversing avalanche slides, which are well represented by this list.
The rules for hiking this list are pretty simple. You need to hike 20 trails on the Required list and 5 more trails from the Electives List. There is also a patch awarded to people who finish this list, which is much coveted by hard core White Mountain hikers. Click for the complete set of rules and award information.

The 52 With a View list (also known as the Over the Hill Hikers) contains fifty-two mountains with elevations under 4,000 feet and have incredible views.
This list first came about in 1979 with an ordinary group of friends hiking in the New Hampshire. Lib Bates and her husband Charlie Crooker soon took over to organize the group. In 1990, some of the older members of the hiking group suggested a new hiking list (getting tired of only hiking the NH 4,000 Footers) called 52 with a View; A list of mountains shorter than the NH48, but all with amazing views!
There is a patch you can receive after hiking all the mountains on the list.
To register and receive a patch, return by mail your checklist of when you hiked each mountain (printable checklist below), your name, address, date and the mountain where you completed the list to:
Mark Tuckerman
Box 718
Center Harbor NH 03226
If you have any questions: You can reach Mark Tuckerman at
marktaub@metrocast.net
The fee for patches are $ 5.00 U.S. each.
