East Osceola offers an enjoyable hiking experience, with the trail ranking on the easier side for New Hampshire’s 4,000-footers, but still presenting some challenging sections. We embarked on our hike from the Greenley Pond trail, heading up to East Osceola before continuing on to Mount Osceola and back. While Mount Osceola proved somewhat more challenging, East Osceola featured no significant views. However, Mount Osceola rewarded us with stunning 360-degree panoramas.
According to our GPS, the total distance covered was 8 miles. Some fellow hikers informed us that starting on Tripoli Road and taking the Mount Osceola Trail might be an easier route, but we couldn’t confirm this since we only had one car available.
Numerous dogs accompanied their owners on this trail, and our dog Java thoroughly enjoyed the hike! Despite being an easy day hike, be mindful of the “Chimney” section situated halfway between Mount Osceola and East Osceola. Java encountered some difficulty descending the Chimney, but managed by veering off to the left. He had no trouble climbing up. The Chimney could pose challenges for smaller or older dogs, so caution is advised. When descending from Osceola to East, the less steep route is on the left. Conversely, if you’re ascending from East Osceola, the easier path would be on your right.
