Elevation: 4,501′
Mount Garfield proved to be a mentally and physically demanding summit to conquer during the Pemi Loop. As seen in the elevation profile map, it isn’t the highest peak, but its isolation adds to the challenge. After reaching the summit of Lafayette, the trail descends nearly 2,000 feet before starting to climb again. You’ll experience a short incline, followed by another 500-foot descent, ultimately reaching the lowest elevation point since embarking on the Pemi Loop. From there, it’s time to ascend 1,000 feet to the summit of Garfield – an impressive amount of elevation change in less than 3 miles!
However, the spectacular views from Garfield’s summit make the tough climb well worth the effort. The remnants of an old fire tower at the summit add a unique touch to the experience.
Many dogs were spotted at Garfield’s summit, and we learned that the Mount Garfield Trail wasn’t too challenging for experienced pups to navigate.
