Mount Moriah’s trailhead can be found at the end of Bangor Street, nestled in a residential area. Simply drive past the houses, and you’ll reach the dead-end where the trail begins.
The hike up Mount Moriah is relatively easy, with the Carter-Moriah Trail leading to the summit. Although there aren’t many lookouts on the ascent, the trail is still enjoyable, and the summit offers some lovely views. Despite its small size, the summit didn’t feel crowded when we visited.
Continuing along the Carter-Moriah Trail toward North Carter Mountain, we were treated to even more stunning views, which continued to impress all the way to the Imp Campground area.
We spent the night at Imp Campground, located 2.1 miles further along the Carter-Moriah Trail, and only about 3.7 miles from Mount Moriah’s summit. The campground is well-equipped with single and double tent platforms, a composting outhouse, dishwashing area, bear-proof metal food boxes, a shelter, and a brook for water refills. Dogs are welcome at all AMC campgrounds, though not at AMC huts.
The Carter-Moriah Trail proved to be a very dog-friendly hike. Java faced no difficulties, and there were no significant rock scrambles to contend with.
