Mount Pierce is a very dog-friendly hike. The parking lot was easy to find, and the path was well marked. There were steep sections of this hike but nothing that most hiking dogs wouldn’t be able to handle. We ended up taking the Mizpah Cutoff trail to the Mizpah Spring hut to stop for a quick lunch break. The hut was really nice and the staff was very friendly. After the Mizpah Spring hut, we continued on to the Webster Cliff trail. Note that dogs are NOT allowed in any AMC hut so Java and I stayed outside the Mizpah Spring hut and had our lunch outside. They do serve food in the hut and have working bathrooms. The bunks also did look nice.
Mt Pierce was a little deceiving as the reviews all say you get 360 panoramic views but you really get 180 views. If you think you’re at the summit and still in trees with not a great view, keep going, it does open up! We started this hike around 11am and got to the summit around 2pm. It was such a clear day that we got really awesome views of Mount Washington and a lot of the other presidential peaks!
After summiting Mount Pierce, we took the Crawford path back down to the Crawford connector. The hike did get pretty rocky and slippery toward the summit. It wasn’t really hard rock scrambles but you had to watch your footing as it was steep.
Overall Mount Pierce was a very dog-friendly hike and Java enjoyed it very much. We saw lots of other dogs on this trail and all the pups seemed to be really enjoying their hike on Mount Pierce!
