Elevation: 4,430 feet
South Carter Mountain provides a delightful and accessible hiking experience in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. We began our adventure at the Nineteen Mile Brook Parking Lot, a spacious area that fills up quickly, so arriving early is recommended.
The Nineteen Mile Brook Trail is a relatively easy route with minimal elevation gain, offering plenty of water sources along the way. As you progress onto the Carter Dome Trail, the incline increases, making the hike slightly more challenging. The final 0.8-mile stretch on the Carter-Moriah Trail is the most demanding, yet still manageable for a 4,000-foot peak.
Although South Carter Mountain doesn’t offer summit views, the enjoyable hike up more than compensates for the lack of vistas. This trek is particularly appealing as it is very dog-friendly. Our canine companion, Java, encountered no difficulties on this hike, and he relished the numerous water sources available. The Nineteen Mile Brook Trail boasts several swimming areas for both humans and pups, making it an ideal summer excursion.
Embark on the pleasant and dog-friendly hike up South Carter Mountain, where you and your four-legged friend can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of New Hampshire’s White Mountains.
